Col 10x8" photo On 15th October 1997 at Black Rock Desert in Nevada USA, pilot Andy Green broke the World Land Speed Record in the Thrust SSC of Richard Noble. This was the first time a land vehicle had exceeded the speed of sound. He achieved 763.035 mph for the flying mile. In setting the record the Sound Barrier was broken in both the North & South runs.
