Claudia Malkovich (born c.1972 in Devizes, Wiltshire) appeared as Dee Pollard from February 1997 until April 1998. Born to a Fillipino mother and half English, half Croatian father; from the age of four until 18 she studied at a Rudolf Steiner school in Gloucester, where the focus is on developing a childs' creative side. By the age of sixteen, Claudia was certain she wanted to act and in 1990 she joined a London drama school for two years. Her first professional role was in pantomime as the Princess in Alladin. This was soon followed in the summer of 1994 by a role in Pan, directed by Henning Carlsen, and released in 1995. Also in 1994, Claudia appeared in Murder in Mind. In 1995 she toured with the Yellow Earth Theatre Company, and in 1996 appeared in Dennis Potters' series Cold Lazarus, followed by an episode of Cracker. In December 1996, Claudia was screen tested for her Emmerdale role, although she did not expect to get the part. Speaking to Birmingham newspaper Sunday Mercury in 1998 about her casting she said "The part of Dee had been on the grapevine for a while. I was delighted to get the job, and it happened very quickly. I met with the producer, then the next week I was starting work. I didn't have time to get nervous." Claudia admitted that she didn't want a long-term future on Emmerdale as she wanted to try other things, although she has had no other known television work since leaving.
